High Risk Pregnancy

A high risk pregnancy is the one where due to certain complications or medical conditions that can affect the health of both the expectant mother or to the baby.

Women with high-risk pregnancies require specialized care, close monitoring and timely intervention so that there are minimal risk and the best outcome for the mother and the baby. The goal is to identify and manage potential complications early to optimize the health outcomes for both the mother and the baby.

Maternal age: Pregnancies in age less than 17years or beyond the age of 35 are at higher risk of developing complications. There is a higher chance of miscarriage and birth defects, especially if you are above the age of 35. Mothers who are more than 35 years of age are also at risk of developing gestational diabetes, pregnancy-induced hypertension, preterm labor.

Medical Conditions: Pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, autoimmune diseases, kidney disease, and heart disease can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy.

History of Pregnancy Complications: Women who have experienced complications in previous pregnancies, such as preterm birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, or preeclampsia, may be at higher risk in subsequent pregnancies.

Issues during current pregnancy – Certain conditions in this pregnancy will increase the risk in this pregnancy, like developing high blood pressure, gestational diabetes (developing diabetes in the pregnancy), twin pregnancy, low lying placenta, etc, these pregnancies require extensive care and multidisciplinary approach.
